Experience one of the most exciting and unpredictable techniques in ceramics! During this outdoor firing event, you will glaze a piece of bisqueware and then fire it using the Raku firing process. You’ll watch your pottery transform as it is heated to glowing temperatures, removed from the kiln while red-hot, and finished using traditional Raku techniques. Pieces may be enhanced with horsehair, sugar, or placed into containers of combustible materials to create dramatic crackles, metallic finishes, smoky patterns, and one-of-a-kind surface effects.
Every firing is unique, making each piece a surprise and a true work of art. Whether you’re new to Raku or have experienced it before, this process is always thrilling to watch and participate in.
Because of the firing process, Raku pottery is porous and delicate, making it best suited for decorative use only. Raku pieces are not food safe.
This is an outdoor event involving fire, high heat, and smoke. Safety is our highest priority, and all participants will receive instruction before the firing begins.
